Customer Service Queries

Can I order over the phone?

Of course! Contact one of our customer service team members at (760) 288-4178 Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4 pm PST. Our office is closed Saturday and Sunday, and we are closed on postal holidays.

Do you sell or share my contact information?

Classicshaving.com respects your privacy. We never share the contact or personal information provided to us by our customers with any third party for any reason except for business or promotions directly and solely related to Classicshaving.com.

Can I stop by your warehouse to pick up product?

We do not have a “browsing” shop set up at the moment, but we will let you know when we get to that point.

Can I place an order without creating an account?

Yes, you can. If you choose to create an account in the future, we cannot tie old orders to new accounts, and you will not begin accruing reward points for your purchases until you create an account.

Will wet shaving work for a woman?

ABSOLUTELY! Think about how much real estate women shave every day. Wet shaving can really help with, if not negate, shaving irritation that can come with cartridge razors and canned foams and gels.

Does my discount code get entered automatically?

No, you will need to enter it manually in the "Discount" box right under the items in the checkout area. Hit "Apply" to view the instant discount.

Are there restrictions on using discount codes?

Yes, the following restrictions apply when using our coupon codes.  Some vendors do not allow any discounting on their products due to their MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policies.  Currently we do not offer coupon code discounts on Dovo/Merkur, Parker or one-of-a-kind (artisanal) products.  We reserve at any time the right to disallow coupon codes to apply to a vendor's products at the request of the vendor.  If you have a mixture of products in your shopping cart from vendors who allow coupon codes and those who don't, the discount will only apply to the products in your shopping cart whose vendors allow discount codes.  Finally, most coupon codes are good for only one use per customer, so if you have used a coupon code previously and try to re-use it, the code will not be applied to your order.

Why doesn't my discount code seem to be working?

Please contact customerservice@classicshaving.com if you are trying to use a discount code and you believe it should be working but it isn't.

Does my discount code apply to all products?

The discount code is not applicable to Merkur/DOVO and Parker products, per the manufacturer. It is also not applicable to specialty custom items such as Dylan Farnham or Harner razors, Cobra razors, and specialty strops. Certain coupons will work with all products, and other coupons will adhere to the descriptions mentioned.

All Things Shipping

Which companies do you use for shipping?

USPS or UPS for domestic shipments. Flat rate allows us to choose best method of shipment which is usually USPS. International orders ship USPS only.

Do you offer free shipping?

Unfortunately, we do not offer free shipping, other than some coupons that might be specifically for free shipping.

How long will my package take to arrive?

This depends mostly entirely upon the shipping method chosen. USPS shipping methods are Estimates based on your location. First Class is estimated at 5-7 days, and Priority is usually estimated at 3-6 days. Please be aware! If on our checkout page the shipping method reads “Priority 3 Day” – this is an estimate of the USPS that you live within a 3 day delivery range and is Not a guaranteed date of delivery. The only guaranteed method of USPS shipping is Express shipping, which is 1-3 days, depending on when the order is placed.

How soon after I place my order will my package ship?

Most orders placed Monday-Thursday will ship next business day. Orders placed during the holiday seasons may take two days to process and ship. We do not ship on Saturdays and Sundays – orders placed Friday afternoon-Sunday evening will ship the following Monday. Special orders, personalized orders, and sharpening service orders will be delayed. Please be aware that if you select Priority Shipping on Friday afternoon, your order will ship Priority (typically 3-6 days) on Monday.

Do you ship to APO FPO?

Yes we do! Please make sure you enter all needed info. Thank you for your service!!

Do you ship to my country?

Most likely! We currently do not ship to Russia, certain Middle Eastern countries, and certain African countries, primarily due to the unreliability of these postal services. If you are uncertain about your specific country, please email us at customerservice@classicshaving.com

What Customs fees should I expect?

Customs fees vary from country to country. Customers are responsible for the Customs fees charged by their country, and these fees are not included in your total at time of checkout.

Is it possible to alter Customs information, so as to avoid paying high taxes?

We cannot alter Customs information at any time for any reason, as it is considered fraud by the U.S. Postal Service and Government, and could harm our good standing as a business.

Why has my tracking information not shown any changes for my international order?

USPS does not provide tracking information for First Class or Priority orders. The only shipping method with true tracking information, even while in Customs, is USPS EXPRESS shipping.

How long until my international order arrives?

It depends entirely upon the shipping method selected - and the whims of Customs! First Class International will usually take 1-6 weeks. Priority International provides limited tracking information, and can arrive in 10-14 business days (and can also take up to six weeks). Express International can arrive in 3-5 business days, and provides up to date tracking information. Please be advised that Customs has the right to hold your package for up to 30 days. If you have not received your package when you expected to, please check with your Customs office to see if there are any fees or duties that need to be paid prior to arranging for delivery.

Products, Products, Products

How do I create a lather with my brush?

Begin by rinsing the brush in warm water, enough to saturate the whole head. If you are using shave soap in a mug, begin by ‘whisking’ your brush vigorously for a minute to load up the brush with the soap, and then bring the brush to your wet face to begin creating a lather. If you are using a softer cream, shake some of the excess water off the brush. Put some of the cream in your palm or in a palm bowl, and proceed as with the shaving cream. Each shave soap or cream lathers differently, so some experimentation may be necessary. Check out our video here on lathering!

Can hard water affect my lather?

Yes. If you have hard water, we suggest trying distilled water. Especially if you are using a soap with lanolin, we recommend pouring a little hot water over the soap ahead of time to start loosening up those fats.

How should I store my brush?

Brushes should always be rinsed, shaken out, and hung bristles down to dry. You don’t need an expensive stand, there are stands for under $10, but it is definitely an important purchase. If you are packing your brush for travel, always make sure it is completely dry before packing in an enclosed container.

My brush is shedding, is that normal?

Yes, brushes sometimes shed during their first few uses. If you’re having shedding issues, try using baby shampoo or our Classic Brand brush cleaner and hang the brush bristles-down to dry. Once dry, vigorously comb out until it stops shedding, using a fine tooth comb. If it does not stop shedding after using for another week, please let us know, and we can proceed from there.

Why does my new brush smell bad?

Badger hair (and boar hair) shaving brushes are made of natural hair from animals, and as such a certain scent is completely normal. If the smell does not go away after a few uses, try using baby shampoo or brush cleaner to thoroughly wash the brush (always remember to hang your brush bristles down to dry properly!).

Do blades come with my safety razor?

The Merkur razors will come with one sample blade. The rest of the razors do not come with a sample blade. We recommend purchasing at least one pack of blades with your new razor.

How many shaves can I get out of each DE blade?

We give an estimate of 4-7 shaves, depending on your type of hair and the brand of blades.

Which DE blades should I use?

We recommend you try all of them! Take advantage of having choices, especially if you’re in this for the long haul. Every single person prefers a different brand of blades. We highly recommend the Feather blades, beginners beware! They’re sharp! Other favorites here are the Astra and Treet blades.

What’s a Cobra Classic/King Cobra? Why is it always out of stock?

The Cobra Classic and the King Cobra are American Made safety razors, exclusively sold by Classic Shaving, and specifically designed to hold the Feather Professional or Professional Super blades. When we receive a shipment of them, they sell immediately. If you would like to be notified when the Cobra Classic/King Cobra will be in stock, please sign up with your email address on the product page using the link “Notify Me When Product Is Back In Stock.”

Do I need to purchase a sharpening service for my new straight razor?

We ship most of our razors 'shave-ready'. Our Dovo razors have an option to sharpen to shave-ready status for an additional small fee.

How do I hone my straight razor?

Honing is a lifestyle, and not one to be attempted lightly. It requires a lot of accessories, time, patience, and care. Feel free to peruse our honing stones and pastes here. Please find the link to our honing service here

What are all these shaving products?? What do I NEED to buy??

Shaving products generally break down into 5 categories: Pre Shave, Shaving Soap, Shaving Cream, Aftershave Liquid, and Aftershave Balm.

After using a hot towel or taking a hot shower, you’ve removed your natural oils, and you want to use a tiny bit of lubrication or protective oil to protect your face. Pre-Shave isn’t strictly necessary, but can help, particularly with straight razor shaving, or if you have sensitive skin.

Shaving Soap typically has a slicker lather and is the more old-fashioned choice, and often preferred by straight razor shavers.

Shaving Cream has a more dense lather, tends to be more moisturizing, and often preferred by safety razor shavers.

Aftershave Liquid will usually contain alcohol, can dry your skin out, and is used to close the pores.

Aftershave Balm usually does not have alcohol, or has a very small amount, and is meant to moisturize and return your skin to its natural pH.
