This block is rough until you use it a bit. Rough = no good after shaving ... especially on your neck. While it will eventually wear smooth after some use, you have to be sure to place it used side up. It you place it used side down, then the surface becomes rough again the next time you go to use it. So don't get this block, get the Classic Brand block. it is nice and smooth, and the side you put face down doesn't get rough. The only positive that this block has going for it in comparison is it's size, which allows for quicker application. But I'll sacrifice that for Classic Brand, which is a smoother block in a more convenient travel size for a lower price per gram. Osma alum blocks are also very smooth, and the size and cost per gram are about the same as the Classic Brand. But they come in a cardboard box, which means that you have to be extra careful when shaving if you want to ensure that the box lasts until you finish using the block.
