The Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar Safety Razor

The Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar Safety Razor

Scimitar Razor with Bluebeards LogoThe Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar is a prime example of the brand’s modern and whimsical designs. Immediately noticeable is the skull and crossbones Bluebeards Revenge logo laser etched onto the top plate of the cutting head. This ups the "cool factor" because it is masculine and unconventional, but presented in an upscale way. Unlike many of the double edge razors on the market that are very utilitarian in appearance with coarse knurling patterned handles, the Scimitar features smoother lines and a classy overall appearance.  The handle texture has evenly spaced horizontal lines that provide a bit of texture to the grip surface, but maintains a smooth feel and gives the razor and attractive appearance.  The chrome plating is evenly applied and smooth with no areas of unevenness or imperfections to be found anywhere.

Scimitar Safety Razor from The Bluebeards RevengeThe Scimitar is precisely manufactured to the same specifications as the well regarded Muhle R89 safety razor. It is a traditional three-piece razor with an extremely well designed cutting head that fits together with exact tolerances that provides a perfectly even cutting edge exposure on each side when a blade is installed.  A precision fit of the cutting head is critical for achieving consistently comfortable shaves, especially for those who favor more aggressively sharp blades, such as Feathers.  I have used several of my favorite blades in the Scimitar razor and all have seated dead center in the cutting head and performed very well.  The gap between the cutting edge and safety bar is gauged to provide a mild blade exposure that shaves efficiently, but is comfortable to use and results in fewer nicks and cuts than other more aggressive razors.

While the physical dimensions and weight of the Scimitar bring nothing new to the shaving market, the aesthetics and build quality of the razor definitely make it a model worthy of consideration.  Shaving enthusiasts like me who have been impressed with the performance of Bluebeards Revenge products will find the unique laser-engraved logo on the head of the razor to be an attractive showpiece for any bathroom counter and a perfect complement to the Corsair shaving brush.  The Scimitar is available from The Shaving Shack for £34.99 ($56.00 USD), making it a great value price for a quality and attractive safety razor.

Note: The Bluebeards Revenge line of shaving products was rebranded Dreadnought for the U.S. market. The Bluebeards Revenge Scimitar Safety Razor is nearly identical to the Dreadnought Spartan Double Edge Safety Razor, except for a couple cosmetic changes.
